How in-flight times are solved

A prayer time is a function of position, and in flight the position moves. Munara solves for the instant where the prayer time and the clock meet along the route, then polishes it so the reported time and the reported place agree. Where the model detects no normal occurrence, or detects more than one, it reports only that astronomical result — not a ruling that an obligation disappears or must be repeated.

Munara calculates; it does not determine traveller status. That can depend on leaving your city’s inhabited boundary, journey distance and purpose, whether the destination is home, and how long you intend to stay. Follow your school or a qualified scholar.

Eligible travellers may shorten only the four-unit Dhuhr, Asr and Isha prayers, subject to their school’s conditions. Fajr and Maghrib are not shortened. Combining also has school-specific conditions.

If an obligatory prayer must be performed aboard, face the qiblah and stand, bow and prostrate as safely able. If that is not possible and its valid time would end, follow the concessions of your school and the crew’s safety instructions. If its valid time safely continues beyond landing, praying on the ground may be preferable.

In-flight times are estimated along a direct route flown at constant speed. Real tracks, winds and holding move the aircraft, and with it these times.
